Nigel Summers Art

Welcome

I have been painting for some 10 years or so, originally inspired by visiting the Artists Open Houses at the Brighton Festival every May (aoh.org.uk)

The subject of my first pieces was the construction of the new stadium for Brighton & Hove Albion at Falmer.

My most ambitious piece is entitled “Together” shown above, being a representation of the scene from my seat at the stadium of the memorable day when the club commemorated the tragedy at the Shoreham Air Disaster.

On 22 August 2015, an ex-military jet aircraft crashed during a display at the Shoreham Airshow killing 11 people and injuring 16 others. Two of those who lost their lives that day were Matthew Grimstone and Jacob Schilt, both aged just 23 years of age. Both were Albion fans, Matthew also worked for the club on the groundstaff.

At the first home game after the tragedy, Brighton & Hove Albion held a deeply moving tributewhich inspired me to capture a version in oils on canvas. The original artwork is 900mm x 300mm. Prints are available in various sizes. 10% of the price from every print sold will be donated to Albion In The Community in Matthew and Jacob’s name.
